How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    STREET CLEANSING OPERATIVE
    To carry out a range of duties, as instructed, including work in public open spaces, public roads, car parks, carriageways. This could involve working alone, or in a team. This is in order to achieve a clean, safe and secure environment for residents and the general public.
    To keep clean and maintain public roads at all times. To assist the street cleansing team with the removal of fly tipping borough wide.
    Main duties:
    To post holder will be required to work between the hours of 6:00am and 8:00pm Monday to Friday and some evenings, weekends and occasional public holidays as directed by the line manager. The post holder has no line management and budget responsibilities.
    The post holder will normally work to a defined work plan/schedule or as deployed by his/her supervisor. The post holder has specific Health & Safety responsibilities in respect of their own working methods and is also required to report any health and safety hazards/incidents to an appropriate officer. The post holder will be required to wear corporate uniform.
    To keep clean and maintain the public highway and external contracted locations/areas, removing litter, detritus, spillages, weeds, waste and faeces from grassed areas, shrubs, pavements, carriageways, paths, centre reservation islands, and shopping precincts..
    c. Emptying litter bins (this to include the separation and recycling of appropriate litter/waste as directed) and dog waste bins.
    To clear dead animals from public roads.
    Removal of fly tips and dumped domestic refuse.
    Place euro bins in the outdoor market
    To clean and maintain town centres before, during and after all events
    Carry out occasional refuse, house to house and communal waste collection duties.
    Report broken or dangerous bins and report missed refuse collections and fly tipping
    In undertaking the above duties, and under guidance from the line manager, the employee will be expected to: -
    a. Achieve high standards of customer care at all times remaining courteous and diplomatic in difficult situations.
    b. Project to the public the image of the service as being keen to assist wherever possible, and positively promote the work that the Division carries out across its various services and the Council generally.
    Pay particular regard to the needs of vulnerable residents.
    e. Carry out all duties with due regard to the provisions of health and safety, legislation, the Council’s equal opportunities and customer care policies.
    Receive training on, and be expected to operate, a range of mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, including mobile phone usage and closing scheduled work on using the Whitespace or any other application.
    To ensure contact is available through phone, radio or other equipment where supplied, while at work.
    Receive customer care and other waste and street cleansing training as the service dictates.
    To adhere strictly to procedures for signing in and out of duty.The nature of this service is such that employees may be required to respond to many different situations, you must be prepared to work in a totally flexible manner.
    m. Where necessary for the job role or appropriate for continued development in the role
    To undertake all duties with due regard to the provisions of health and safety regulations and legislation, Data Protection/GDPR, the Council’s Equal Opportunities and Customer Care policies.
    p. You may be required to undertake alternative, additional or ancillary duties from time to time or transfer to another service department within the Council as the Council may reasonably direct to meet service user demand in the event of a crisis or emergency.
