How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    This is an exciting opportunity for someone with an electrical background who enjoys varied work, problem‑solving, and taking pride in maintaining critical infrastructure.

    🔧 What You'll Be Doing

    You'll play a key role in ensuring our substations remain safe, compliant, and well‑maintained. Your day‑to‑day activities will include:

    Inspecting and carrying out non‑intrusive diagnostic testing on HV & LV plant
    Identifying and repairing minor defects
    Demonstrating a strong commitment to safety and our Stay Safe programme
    Taking oil samples from HV plant for further analysis
    Completing reports and work orders using handheld IT devices
    Overseeing subcontractors and supporting wider maintenance or project work
    Cleaning and maintaining substation internals and exteriors
    Conducting vegetation management around compounds
    Carrying out ESQC regulatory site visits
    Performing HV and LV meter readings
    Completing touch‑up redecoration tasks as requiredThis role requires flexibility - you may work alone or as part of a wider team, and your work will take you across the Services area.

    🔎 What You'll Bring

    We're looking for someone who has:

    GCSE‑level education (or equivalent)
    A basic electrical background and strong hazard awareness
    Understanding of the Electricity at Work Act
    Ability to read electrical diagrams and maps
    A full clean driving licence
    Practical problem‑solving skills
    Health, Safety and Environmental awareness
    Confidence using handheld devices
    Familiarity with chemicals, safety data sheets, and sharps handlingAnd personally, you're someone who is:

    Safety‑driven
    Determined and proactive
    Eager to learn and develop
    Able to provide a 5‑year traceable work history (for airport security clearance)Training will be provided for the right candidate.
