How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Planning Consultant (Planner / Senior Planner)

    We are currently seeking a Planning Consultant to join a growing planning consultancy based in Reading This role would suit an RTPI member or someone working towards chartership, with 2-5 years' planning experience, looking to develop their career within a supportive and professional environment.

    The position offers a flexible package, dependent on experience and capability, and a structured hybrid working arrangement with office-based working Monday to Thursday and home working on Fridays.

    The Role

    As a Planning Consultant, you will support a range of planning projects across the development lifecycle, working closely with senior team members, clients and external consultants.

    Duties will include (but are not limited to):

    Preparing and contributing to planning reports and statements
    Undertaking site appraisals and development feasibility assessments
    Carrying out planning policy research at local and national level
    Monitoring planning applications and coordinating responses
    Liaising with clients, local authorities and stakeholders
    Liaising with external consultants and project teams
    Assisting with project management across planning instructions
    Reviewing and checking policy matters for planning statements and appeals
    Preparing and lodging planning appeals, including supporting documentationAbout You

    Planner / Senior Planner with 2-5 years' experience in planning
    RTPI member or actively working towards chartership
    Experience preparing planning submissions, reports and appraisals
    Strong written and verbal communication skills
    Confident liaising with clients, consultants and local authorities
