How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

We’re supporting a leading construction consultancy in the search for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the National Grid’s Great Grid Upgrade - the largest overhaul of the UK electricity network in generations.

This initiative is part of National Grid’s £30bn investment in electricity networks across England and Wales over the next four years, helping connect renewable energy to homes and businesses while modernising the UK’s power infrastructure.

    The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to work on nationally significant energy projects, supporting the delivery of complex substation and electrical infrastructure upgrades. You’ll be joining the Yorkshire GREEN project, a major high-voltage electricity network upgrade across Yorkshire - a key part of the Great Grid Upgrade.

    Project Highlights:

Construction of two new substations: Overton & Monk Fryston

Upgrading and installing overhead lines and underground cabling

Enhancing biodiversity and local environment across project sites

Working on a major infrastructure project with high visibility and lasting impact

On-Site Requirement: 2–3 days per week

    Key Responsibilities:

Lead commercial management and cost control across major substation and utility infrastructure upgrades

Manage NEC3/NEC4 contracts, variations, and compensation events

Work closely with clients, contractors, and project teams to drive value and performance

Prepare budgets, forecasts, and financial reports to inform project decisions

Support pre-construction activities, including risk management and stakeholder reporting

Provide advice on cost management, procurement, and project financial planning

    Candidate Profile:

Proven infrastructure-related Quantity Surveying experience, ideally in utilities, power, or electrical sectors

Strong knowledge of NEC3/NEC4 contracts and commercial management practices

Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline; RICS or equivalent chartership is advantageous

Excellent financial management, negotiation, and communication skills

Ability to work effectively within multi-disciplinary project teams and maintain strong client relationships

    About the Consultancy

You’ll be joining a consultancy known for its technical expertise, supportive culture, and structured career progression. They actively support professional development, including APC guidance and mentoring, providing a clear pathway for ambitious Quantity Surveyors to progress toward chartership and leadership roles. The team values collaboration, innovation, and delivering high-quality, impactful projects.

If you’re motivated, detail-oriented, and want to be part of something that directly supports a greener energy future, this role offers a rare chance to work on high-profile, nationally significant infrastructure projects
