How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Technical Sales Engineer

    Location: Remote

    Salary: Competitive plus benefits

eSmart Networks is a leading UK Independent Connections Provider (ICP) with its own IDNO, at an exciting point in its journey. A business with real momentum, strong pipeline, and ambitious plans to grow its footprint across industrial and commercial electrical infrastructure. We specialise in grid connections and capacity upgrades, enabling business to secure and optimise their power supply, achieve sustainability goals, and future-proof their energy infrastructure.

We are looking for a Technical Sales Engineer / Tendering Engineer / Customer Solutions Engineer to sit at the heart of our pre‑contract and commercial activity, supporting the development and winning of complex grid connection projects across industrial, commercial, EV charging and other types of developments.

This is a customer-facing technical role, working closely with our Business Development Managers, estimating and design teams to shape robust, deliverable and competitive grid connection solutions. You will engage directly with developers, consultants, contractors and utilities, providing technical assurance and confidence in our capability as an ICP and IDNO partner.

The role is ideal for someone with an ICP, IDNO or DNO background who enjoys influencing outcomes early, shaping solutions, and bridging the gap between engineering, commercial and client-facing teams.

We can recruit at both senior and junior levels subject to candidate experience and career aspirations; we will discuss this with you as part of the recruitment process.

This is a fully remote role, with the option to work from our regional office in Essex or Belfast if preferred.

    What you will be doing

    Customer-facing technical support

    * Support Business Development Managers by engaging directly with clients, consultants and contractors

    * Understand customer objectives, constraints and delivery drivers (cost, programme, risk, adoption)

    * Act as a trusted technical interface during early engagement, tenders and negotiations

    * Provide confidence in our technical capability, delivery approach and commercial offer

    Best-in-class technical solutions

    * Develop solutions-led grid connection options aligned to client needs and project drivers

    * Optimise solutions across cost, programme, constructability and risk

    * Evaluate contestable vs non-contestable scopes and identify areas for value engineering or optimisation

    * Utilise our sister company IDNO adoption capability to enhance client value

    Technical expertise & tender support

    * Provide technical advice and oversight to estimating and business development teams

    * Develop tender-level technical designs, scopes and technical narratives

    * Support configuration of quotations, challenging assumptions and exclusions

    * Carry out technical reviews of tender designs, ensuring alignment with standards, capability and delivery risk

    * Clearly articulate and review technical inclusions, exclusions and assumptions to avoid downstream commercial risk

    How we will support you:

    * Our Business Development Managers will manage the customer engagement- they will recognise and appreciate your technical support, you won’t be on your own

    * Our industry leading Grid Solutions team is full of ex DNO and ex Transmission engineers- you will have a best-in-class technical team to bounce ideas, support on specific projects and support with your professional development

    * We strongly encourage and support progression towards chartership for professionally qualified engineers, or progression to being a professionally qualified engineer for those with industry experience

    * This role will have development opportunities and options to join at both senior and junior levels subject to candidate experience and career aspirations- we will discuss this with you as part of the recruitment process

    About You

    * This role would be a great fit for candidates from an electrical design background or other client-facing ICP, IDNO, Consultancy or DNO roles such as project engineering, project management, pre-construction management or tender engineering.

    What we are looking for

    Essential:

Strong technical understanding of UK electricity networks (LV & HV Essential, EHV beneficial)

Understanding of DNO/IDNO interfaces and adoption models

Ability to communicate technical solutions to non-technical audiences

Confident communicator with clients, consultants and internal stakeholders

Ability to provide dynamic technical support to external and internal stakeholders.

    Pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset.

    Desirable:

    Experience working within an ICP

Experience supporting bids, tenders or pre‑contract technical development

Familiarity with UK network standards (ENA, DNO specifications, G99, G81, etc.)

Exposure to industrial & commercial projects

11kV and/or LV Experience in electrical design or other client-facing ICP, IDNO, Consultancy or DNO roles such as project engineering, project management, pre-construction management or tender engineering.

Degree or HND in Electrical Engineering is desirable but not a pre-requisite.
