How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

AWE is recruiting for a Head of Approved Dosimetry Services within the Defence Radiation Protection Services (DRPS) group, based at AWE Alverstoke. DRPS provides the Ministry of Defence and commercial customers with specialist technical and advisory services covering all aspects of ionising and non‑ionising radiation protection.

In this senior position, you will lead the DRPS Approved Dosimetry Service, ensuring scientific excellence, operational reliability, and full regulatory compliance. You will act as the organisation's technical authority for dosimetry, providing expert oversight of all dosimetry activities. This includes leading dosimetry aspects of radiological emergency response and serving as the Technical Lead for the Compensation Scheme for Radiation‑Linked Diseases.

    Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced dosimetry specialist with strong technical leadership experience and a deep understanding of IRR17 and HSE requirements for Approved Dosimetry Services. You will have an established background in personal dosimetry, experience working within regulatory frameworks, and the capability to oversee complex scientific processes with precision and integrity.

You will be driven by a commitment to advancing capability, developing people, and upholding the highest standards of radiological protection. Alongside leading the Approved Dosimetry Service, you will apply your expertise to the Compensation Scheme for Radiation‑Linked Diseases, where clear scientific advice, impartial assessment, and sound professional judgement are essential.
