About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join our growing team in Washington. This is an experience-based role, ideally suited to a commercially minded professional who can operate independently while collaborating closely with colleagues for peer review and commercial assurance. The successful candidate will take ownership of project commercial management, supporting delivery teams across power and grid infrastructure projects.
Responsibilities
- Work independently on project commercial activities with internal peer checking.
- Draft and administer simple Substation Delivery (SVD) and subcontract agreements.
- Compile and manage contract documentation packages.
- Assess subcontractor applications for payment and valuations.
- Carry out cost tracking, monitoring project financial performance.
- Produce internal cost forecasts in collaboration with Site Managers.
- Identify and manage:
- Early Warning Notices (EWNs)
- Compensation Events (CEN)
- Contract risks and commercial exposures
- Support administration of main contracts and subcontracts.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and reporting.
- Assist project teams in maintaining commercial compliance throughout project delivery.
Qualifications
- Qualifications in Quantity Surveying or Construction Management are beneficial but not essential.
- This role prioritises practical industry experience over academic accreditation.
- Professional memberships (e.g., RICS) are welcomed but not required.
Required Skills
- 2–3 years’ Quantity Surveying experience (minimum)
- Ability to manage workload independently
- Strong commercial awareness within construction or energy infrastructure
- Experience assessing subcontractor applications and valuations
- Experience with cost reporting, forecasting, and financial tracking
- Ability to interpret and administer contract documentation
Preferred Skills
- Candidates must have working awareness of NEC contracts (mandatory).
- Knowledge of FIDIC contracts is advantageous but not essential – candidates with experience of one will be supported in gaining familiarity with the other:
- FIDIC contracts (advantageous)
- NEC contracts (mandatory)
- Bespoke and amended forms of contract
