You'll be working for a Tier 1 highways contractor delivering inspection and maintenance services across the local highway network. The organisation operates at scale, with established systems, clear processes and long‑term contracts, providing a stable pipeline of work and strong site support.
Your new role
As a Highways Safety Inspector, you'll be responsible for inspecting the highway network and identifying safety issues to help keep road users safe.
You'll be involved in:
- Carrying out highway safety inspections (walked, driven and some computer‑based).
- Identifying and recording defects across roads, footways and other highway assets.
- Raising jobs for repairs and following them through the system.
- Reviewing and closing customer enquiries linked to inspections.
- Supporting enforcement activity where required, including issuing notices.
- Providing inspection records to support claims and attending court if needed.
- Working with maintenance, street works and inspection teams.
- Attending site visits and team meetings as required.
What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience in highway inspections or a similar highways role.
- A good understanding of common highway defects and safety risks.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
- Knowledge of the local road network would be an advantage.
- Lantra and/or NRSWA qualifications
- A full UK driving licence is essential.
