Our client is a fast-growing, purpose-led financial technology company helping people take control of their finances, reduce debt and build long-term savings. Following recent funding, the business is scaling rapidly, investing in AI and strengthening its relationship with the FCA. They are seeking a Head of Compliance on an initial 6-month fixed term contract, with the potential to become permanent. Reporting to the General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer, you will lead the development and delivery of the compliance strategy in a hands-on capacity. This role suits a pragmatic, technically strong professional who is comfortable operating in ambiguity and making risk-based decisions.
Managing a team of two, you will oversee an established compliance framework supporting multiple Financial Conduct Authority permissions across consumer credit and payment services.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and evolve the compliance strategy in line with business growth and regulatory expectations
- Oversee and enhance policies, controls, and frameworks
- Monitor Financial Conduct Authority developments and ensure effective implementation
- Own the Consumer Duty framework (Principle 12), including Board reporting
- Lead the Compliance Monitoring Plan and risk oversight activities
- Provide clear, commercial, and independent regulatory advice
- Oversee financial promotions and partner closely with Marketing
- Build and embed a strong compliance culture through training
- Support the Board and committees with insight and reporting
- Manage Financial Conduct Authority relationships, including supervisory engagement
- Drive continuous improvement and scalability
About You
- Available immediately or able to start at short notice
- Strong consumer credit compliance experience or experience with financial services
- Solid financial crime and anti-money laundering expertise
- Deep understanding of the Financial Conduct Authority Handbook, including Consumer Credit, Principles for Businesses, Senior Management Arrangements, Systems and Controls, and Dispute Resolution
- Familiarity with Payment Services Regulations
- Knowledge of savings and protection products is advantageous
- Relevant professional qualifications such as Investment Compliance Association or Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment preferred, or equivalent experience
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced, scaling environments
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including Board-level exposure
- Clear and confident communicator, able to simplify complex regulation
- Commercially minded with strong risk judgement
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities
