How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Head of People & Culture

    Location: Oxford

    Salary: £75,000 – £85,000 per annum

    About the Role

    We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of People & Culture to join Oxford Bus Company in a pivotal strategic leadership role. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will shape and deliver a people strategy that supports our organisational goals and drives high performance across the business.

    Operating within a safety-critical environment, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our workforce is engaged, capable, and aligned with our values, while maintaining the highest standards of operational excellence. This role offers the opportunity to shape the people agenda of a complex, customer-focused transport organisation and play a critical part in delivering safe, reliable, and high-quality services.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and implement a comprehensive People & Culture strategy aligned with business objectives
    • Lead workforce planning initiatives to ensure the organisation is resourced effectively for current and future needs
    • Oversee employment management, ensuring compliance with legislation and best practice
    • Drive leadership development and succession planning across all levels of the organisation
    • Champion a high-performance culture focused on engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement
    • Support operational excellence by embedding strong people practices within a safety-critical environment
    • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leaders on all people-related matters

    About You

    • Proven experience in a senior HR or People leadership role
    • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate strategy into actionable plans
    • Experience working within a complex, operational or safety-critical environment is highly desirable
    • Excellent leadership and stakeholder management skills
    • Deep understanding of employment law and HR best practice
    • Passion for developing people, enhancing culture, and driving organisational performance
