How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Mylar Specialty Films UK Ltd is a leading global producer of PET and PEN polyester films specialising in film products and related services for markets and industries including Battery Materials, Durable Cards, Electrical Insulation and Capacitors, Flexible Electronics, Healthcare, Imaging Media, Labels, Packaging, Photovoltaics and many more. Mylar Specialty Films is a 50/50 Joint Venture between Celanese Corporation and Teijin Limited. The business has approx. 2000 employees worldwide with manufacturing sites in Asia Pacific, America and Europe. The UK production site is based in Dumfries, Scotland. We currently have a vacancy at our Dumfries Site, within the Technology and Innovation (T&I) group for a Global Laboratory Scientist

    As a Global Laboratory Scientist, you will play a crucial role in collaborating with scientists and engineers across our Technology and Innovation (T&I), quality and manufacturing groups, responding efficiently to any analysis requests to meet business needs. The successful candidate will have hands-on operational experience with a wide range of analytical techniques, a strong laboratory safety record, the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems, and a demonstrated commitment to continuously developing their skills and knowledge.


    This is a full‑time, permanent position, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.


    Responsibilities:


    • Responsible for the delivery of technical and analytical laboratory activities, including execution of all laboratory requests, troubleshooting and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
    • Project manage multiple laboratory analysis requests from various global functions in a safe and timely manner.
    • Document observations, analyses, and interpretation of results, including the preparation of high-quality technical reports and presentations.
    • Provide scientific support and collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, product stewardship, and commercial functions to support analysis requests and related technical activities.
    • Collaborate with global application developers and support scientific and technological investigations for new product developments and pilot plant trials.
    • Take guidance from technical service representatives on scientific investigations to support customer-related complaints and queries.
    • Conduct COSHH assessments for laboratory chemicals.
    • Review and upgrade standard operating procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments for equipment, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement.
    • Assist in maintaining calibration and service contract records for all global laboratory equipment.
    • Ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with applicable health, safety, and quality standards.


    Qualifications:


    • A degree-level qualification in a scientific discipline, or significant experience working in a comparable analytical laboratory environment (minimum of 5+ years).
    • Sound operational knowledge of a broad range of scientific techniques, including mechanical, thermal, and spectroscopy testing. Experience with microscopy and surface metrology techniques would be advantageous.
    • Demonstrated ability to apply scientific expertise using a balance of practical laboratory skills and analytical thinking to deliver accurate, high‑quality results across a wide range of laboratory requests.
    • Strong capability to plan, manage, and prioritise workload effectively, with excellent organisational and time‑management skills.
    • A collaborative team member who is also able to work independently, showing strong problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
    • Clear and confident communicator, with the ability to produce high‑quality written technical reports and communicate results effectively to stakeholders.
    • Highly self‑motivated and results‑driven, with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high standards of work.
    • Willingness and enthusiasm to continuously develop technical skills and scientific knowledge.
    • A strong commitment to health and safety, demonstrating safe working practices for themselves and encouraging the same for others.
    • Computer literate, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to use relevant laboratory and reporting software.
