How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Chief Operations Officer (SMF24)

    A pivotal role leading the operational strategy and delivery model for the next phase of Northern LGPS’s development.

    About Northern LGPS

    Northern LGPS is a c£70bn pooled investment partnership for the Local Government Pension Scheme, bringing together the investments of Greater Manchester Pension Fund, Merseyside Pension Fund and West Yorkshire Pension Fund.


    Building on the foundations of its collaboration over several years, Northern LGPS is now entering the next phase of its development. This phase focuses on establishing an FCA authorised investment management company with a dedicated senior leadership team; strengthening governance and creating a clear operating model to support long-term investment outcomes.


    For those joining at this stage, the opportunity is exceptional. These roles offer the chance to shape strategy, set standards and build leadership capability for the long term, working closely with the partner funds, who are both shareholders and clients, Boards and regulators to ensure Northern LGPS continues to evolve as a well-governed, resilient investment organisation.


    The Role

    • Design and implement the operational strategy for Northern LGPS

    • Oversee all operational functions including investment operations and outsourced services

    • Drive process optimisation, standardisation and efficiency across the organisation

    • Oversee technology strategy and systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives

    • Ensure robust operational controls and regulatory compliance

    • Align operational delivery with business strategy and growth objectives

    • Oversee resource allocation and operational budgeting

    • Work closely with the Executive team to build a scalable operating model

    • Build and lead a high-performing operations function

    About You

    • Senior operations leader with experience in complex or regulated environments

    • Strong background in investment operations and outsourced service oversight

    • Experience driving operational transformation and process improvement

    • Understanding of regulatory frameworks and operational governance

    • Ability to build and scale operational models in new organisations

    • Collaborative and strategic leader with strong execution focus
