How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

We're working with a well-established, financially secure contractor-part of a wider group with a turnover in excess of £1bn-to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor into their Special Projects division. This team is known for delivering complex, fast-paced schemes across a range of sectors.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to move beyond a purely support role and gain real commercial ownership, working closely with experienced senior leaders.

    About the Role

You will report directly into a Senior Quantity Surveyor and Commercial Manager, supporting the commercial delivery of multiple projects simultaneously.

    Projects typically include:

    Large-scale distribution and logistics centres
Education refurbishments and new build schemes
    MOD (Ministry of Defence) projects
A mix of fit-out, refurbishment, and new build constructionProject values can vary, giving you exposure to both fast-track smaller works and more complex, higher-value schemes.

This role will be predominantly office-based, giving you strong mentorship and support, while still involving regular site visits to build your practical understanding of delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

Assist in the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account
Support the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and financial forecasts
Assist with subcontractor procurement, including issuing enquiries, analysing returns, and drafting orders
Manage and track variations and change control processes
Prepare and assist with monthly valuations and cost reports
Work alongside site teams to monitor progress, costs, and risk
    Assist in final account negotiations
Build strong relationships with subcontractors, clients, and internal stakeholders

    About You

Experience working as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor within a main contractor or fit-out contractor
Exposure to fit-out, refurbishment, or new build projects
A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management (or working towards one)
Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
Confident communicator with the ability to work collaboratively
Ambitious, driven, and keen to progress your career

    Career Development

This business places a strong emphasis on internal progression and development. You'll benefit from:

Direct mentorship from experienced Senior QS and Commercial Manager
A clearly defined pathway to Quantity Surveyor level and beyond
Exposure to a wide variety of project types and sectors
The opportunity to take on increasing responsibility as you develop

    Salary & Benefits

    £40,000 - £42,000 basic salary
    Car allowance
25 days holiday + bank holidays
    Pension (4% employee contribution)
    Stable, long-term pipeline of work
    Supportive and collaborative team environment

    Why Join?

This is a great opportunity to join a contractor that combines the structure and security of a larger group with the flexibility and pace of a specialist projects team.

You'll gain hands-on experience across a diverse portfolio, be supported by experienced professionals, and have a genuine opportunity to progress your career quickly
