How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Assistant Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering

We are currently seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established and growing civil engineering contractor, supporting the commercial team across a range of infrastructure projects.

This organisation has a strong reputation for delivering complex civil engineering and infrastructure schemes across highways and environmental sectors. With a healthy forward order book and continued growth, they offer a dynamic, supportive environment with clear opportunities for career progression.

    The Project

You will initially support the delivery of a strategic link road scheme, designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance connectivity for local communities and businesses.

The project involves the construction of a new single carriageway route, incorporating associated drainage, active travel provisions (including footways and cycle routes), and sustainable infrastructure elements. This is a high-profile scheme forming part of a wider regional investment programme, offering excellent exposure to a live, multi-disciplinary civil engineering project from an early stage.

    The Role

Working closely with Senior Quantity Surveyors, you will support the commercial management of live projects, helping to ensure cost control, contractual compliance, and effective financial performance throughout the project lifecycle.

    Key Responsibilities

    *

Provide day-to-day commercial support to Senior Quantity Surveyors

    *

Assist in preparing contracts, budgets, bills of quantities, and supporting documentation

    *

Carry out on-site measurements and measurement from drawings

    *

Undertake ongoing estimating, cost analysis of works, including maintenance and variations

    *

Analyse subcontractor quotations and assist with procurement processes

    *

Assist in the preparation and agreement of variation accounts

    *

Prepare and issue subcontractor payment certificates

    *

Support the commercial team in dispute resolution by compiling relevant documentation and evidence

    About You

    *

Previous experience working for a main contractor within a civil engineering environment

    *

Experience supporting the commercial function on live infrastructure or construction projects

    *

Working knowledge of NEC forms of contract

    *

Highly organised with strong commercial awareness

    *

Confident communicator, able to liaise effectively with site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders

    *

Strong numerical and analytical skills with a keen attention to detail

    *

    Proactive and solutions-focused approach

    Additional Requirements

    *

Willingness to travel to sites and attend meetings as required

    *

    Full UK driving licence

    What’s on Offer

    *

Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package

    *

    Company car or car allowance

    *

Company pension scheme (matched up to 8%)

    *

    Life assurance (4x annual salary)

    *

25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave

    *

Social events, team activities, and charity initiatives

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to develop their career within a supportive and forward-thinking business, gaining valuable experience on a high-impact infrastructure scheme
