How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Assistant Quantity Surveyor
    East Birmingham
    £45,000 plus company package

    About the Company

    We are a well-established, family-run civil engineering contractor with decades of experience delivering projects across the UK. The business operates across groundworks, highways, utilities, environmental works, and infrastructure projects, supporting major national contractors.

    With a strong reputation for quality delivery, safety, and long-term client relationships, the company continues to grow and is looking to strengthen its commercial team.

    The Role

    We are seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial team across a variety of civil engineering projects.

    This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced, site-focused environment.

    Key Responsibilities
    Assisting in the preparation of cost plans, budgets, and estimates
    Supporting the procurement of subcontractors and materials
    Measuring and valuing works on site and from drawings
    Assisting with interim valuations and final accounts
    Monitoring project costs and reporting variations
    Supporting contract administration and documentation
    Liaising with site teams, clients, and subcontractors
    Ensuring projects are delivered in line with commercial targets

    Requirements
    Degree, HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (or working towards)
    Previous experience within construction or civil engineering (placement or junior role desirable)
    Strong numerical and analytical skills
    Good understanding of groundworks / civil engineering projects (preferred)
    Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Office packages
    Strong communication and organisational skills
    Full UK driving licence
