How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Your new company
    You will be joining a well-established and multi-accredited civil engineering contractor based in Birmingham with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure projects across the UK. This multi-sector and highly respected contractor is well-known for their commitment to quality, safety and innovation as well as valuing its people and investing in their professional development. They have a strong pipeline of work, offer excellent opportunities for career progression and, as part of their continued growth, they are actively seeking a General Foreman to join their delivery team in the Midlands.

    This is a full-time permanent position based in the Birmingham area.

    Your new role
    As General Foreman, you will play a crucial role in the successful delivery of civil engineering works on site, working closely with the Site Manager and wider project team to coordinate labour, plant and subcontractors.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    Supervising and coordinating daily site activities and workforce
    Managing direct labour and subcontractors to maintain productivity and quality
    Ensuring works are delivered in line with drawings, specifications and programme
    Leading by example on health, safety and environmental compliance
    Conducting daily briefings, toolbox talks and site inductions
    Monitoring progress and reporting issues or delays to site management
    Supporting site management with planning, logistics and quality assurance.This role suits a hands‑on leader who thrives on running well‑organised, safe and productive sites.

    What you'll need to succeed
    In order to be successful, you must have:

    Proven experience as a Foreman within civil engineering, ideally on large-scale infrastructure projects
    Strong technical knowledge of civils works, including drainage, groundworks and reinforced concrete
    Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage site teams
    CSCS, SSSTS/SMSTS and First Aid
    Full UK driving licence.
