How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Children and Young People’s Worker – additional needs

    About Us:
    Peterborough Women’s Aid was formed in 1975. The organisation has grown since that time providing not only safe and secure accommodation to women and children escaping domestic abuse, but also provides specific an Advice Line Services and Outreach.

    We currently have an opportunity for a Children and Young Peoples Worker, additional needs specialist, to join Peterborough Women’s Aid.

    You will provide practical and emotional support to children and young people who have additional needs and are living in our refuge.

    You will need a flexible approach to supporting children and young people as you maybe required to undertake some work outside of office hours. In addition, you will participate in an Out of Hours service, providing on call support to refuge service users at evenings and weekends.

    Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

    * To contribute to each child’s individual support plan, implementing actions, through casework discussions.

    * Promote the welfare of children through providing appropriate levels of support to children e.g., helping children to express their feelings through play, and to cope with the changes in their lives.

    * Provide resources (both material and physical) in order for children to play/express themselves in age and culturally appropriate ways.

    * Arrange individual sessions with children according to their needs.

    * Arrange a variety of social outings relevant to the children and young people at the refuge

    * Assist mothers to find school and nursery places for their children and to offer appropriate levels of support to maintain attendance at these establishments

    * Provide advocacy role with and on behalf of children.

    * Attend Child Protection Conferences and participate in core groups as necessary

    * Provide respite care for children during the day so mothers can access support on their own

    2. Liaison with staff, other agencies, and volunteers

    * Share with the other Children’s Worker overall responsibility for the provision of play facilities for children in the refuge.

    * Contribute generally to the smooth running of the refuge

    * Advise, support, and liaise with staff in other relevant agencies.

    * Attend in-house and community meetings specifically relevant to work in progress.

    3. Development of Service Provision

    * Attend in-house and community meetings that may enhance work practices

    * Keep abreast of current issues of debate that surround the subject of families that experience domestic violence.

    * Take up training relevant to your duties and future developments.

    4. Administration and Finance

    * Produce information, reports and publicity documents as may be required.

    * Fundraise to supplement the children’s budget in conjunction with the other Children’s Workers and other staff members.

    * Keep accurate records of interactions with children and young people

    * Contribute to the Children In Need annual report

    Other:

    * Together with the other children’s worker, to be responsible for health and safety upkeep of play equipment in playroom, conservatory, and garden.
