How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Laravel / Backend Engineer

    📍 Northampton (Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office)

    💰 £47,000 – £58,000

    Our client a fast-growing SaaS fintech business in Northampton is undertaking a major platform rebuild, re-engineering a 15-year-old white-label SaaS product onto a modern Laravel architecture.

    This role sits at the centre of that transformation — extracting legacy domain logic and rebuilding it into a clean, modular Laravel platform with a modern API-first architecture. You will be involved in domain extraction, service-layer design, API architecture, and rebuilding a production SaaS platform used by financial services organisations.

    What You'll Be Doing

    • Rebuilding core domain logic from legacy PHP into clean Laravel services

    • Designing modular service-layer architecture for long-term scalability

    • Building OpenAPI-compliant REST APIs with versioning, documentation and clear contracts

    • Refactoring and modernising a 15-year legacy database schema

    • Identifying and eliminating legacy anti-patterns in the existing platform

    • Writing clean, testable business logic with strong test coverage

    • Collaborating on architecture decisions and technical standards

    • Working closely with the design and frontend team to deliver APIs powering a React + Inertia admin platform

    Ideal Background

    • 5+ years PHP development experience

    • Expert Laravel development experience (3+ years)

    • Experience refactoring or migrating legacy systems

    • Comfortable designing service layers and modular domain architecture

    • Strong understanding of relational databases and legacy schemas

    • Experience designing APIs used by external clients or third parties

    • Pragmatic engineer who understands when to refactor and when to ship
