How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Head of Engineering

    Location: UK (Hybrid) - Aberdeen

    Contract Type: Permanent

    Salary: £100k -£110k + Car Allowance + Bonus

    Overview

    Join a highly regarded engineering organisation with a robust pipeline of projects in the water, nuclear, and energy sectors. This senior leadership position involves overseeing vital design capabilities within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team encompassing mechanical, electrical, and related engineering domains, engaged in large-scale infrastructure programmes.

    Key Responsibilities

    - Lead a multi-discipline engineering team delivering design and engineering support across several active projects

    - Serve as the key interface between engineering teams, project delivery teams, and external partners

    - Manage workload, resource planning, and team capability

    - Oversee project progress, risks, and overall performance

    - Ensure technical quality and consistency in all deliverables

    - Contribute to future business development and participate in shaping upcoming opportunities

    - Drive continuous improvements in engineering delivery and processes

    Requirements

    - Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams on complex projects

    - Demonstrated capability managing teams across mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines

    - Strong understanding of design delivery across multiple engineering domains

    - Skilled in managing workload, priorities, and team structures

    - Confident in stakeholder engagement at various levels

    - Background in engineering design within infrastructure, energy, or similar sectors

    - Motivated to take ownership and deliver strategic influence at a senior level

    - Eager for long-term project stability and pipeline security

    - Interested in developing teams and enhancing engineering capabilities

    - Values flexibility, including hybrid working across UK locations

    Qualifications

    - Degree in Engineering or related field

    - Chartered status (or working towards) preferred
