How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.

    M&E Shift Maintenance Engineer

    Location: Canary Wharf, London
    Shift Pattern: 4 Days On / 4 Days Off – 08:00–20:00
    Salary: £50,000 per annum
    Employment Type: Temp to Perm
    Environment: Large commercial office floor, associated plant rooms & loading bay

    Role Overview

    We are seeking an experienced M&E Shift Maintenance Engineer to join a prestigious commercial building in Canary Wharf. The role involves maintaining one large tenanted floor along with supporting plant and back-of-house areas. You will carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM), statutory compliance checks, reactive repairs, and a variety of fabric and basic building maintenance tasks.

    The ideal candidate is a proactive, client‑facing engineer who is presentable, reliable, professional, and comfortable working within an occupied commercial office environment.

    Key Responsibilities

    Mechanical & Electrical Maintenance

    Carry out planned and reactive maintenance across M&E systems.
    Diagnose faults and take corrective action to restore services.
    Complete maintenance logs, reports, and compliance documentation.
    Undertake small repairs and adjustments to ensure optimal building performance.

    Fabric & General Building Maintenance

    Basic carpentry repairs (e.g., door adjustments, ironmongery fixes).
    Painting, decorating, minor patch repairs.
    Tiling, sealing, and other fabric tasks as required.
    Maintaining the loading bay area and general building appearance standards.

    Statutory Compliance & PPM Tasks

    Typical checks expected within a commercial London building include:

    Fire alarm testing & weekly L5 checks
    Emergency lighting monthly & annual testing
    Water hygiene tasks:

    Temperature monitoring
    Dead-leg removal checks
    TMV servicing
    Legionella compliance logs

    AHU & FCU filter checks and cleaning
    HVAC system inspections
    Generator weekly checks
    Sprinkler system visual inspections
    Dampers and smoke control system routine checks
    Monthly building checks across plant rooms and life-safety systems
    Electrical compliance tasks (minor works, emergency light flick tests)

    Client-Facing Responsibilities

    Act as the primary point of contact for the tenant floor.
    Provide excellent customer service and communicate clearly with building users.
    Maintain professionalism and ensure minimal disruption during maintenance activities.

    Equipment Typically Maintained

    Candidates should be competent working with typical commercial building engineering systems, including:

    Mechanical Systems

    Air Handling Units (AHUs)
    Fan Coil Units (FCUs)
    Chilled water systems
    Hot water systems, calorifiers & plate heat exchangers
    Pumps, pressurisation units, expansion vessels
    Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes
    Ductwork components & fire dampers
    HVAC control systems (BMS)

    Electrical Systems

    Lighting & emergency lighting
    Small power distribution & sockets
    Distribution boards & fuseboards
    UPS systems (basic checks)
    Generators (weekly runs & records)
    Motors, controls & isolators
    BMS interaction and alarm monitoring

    Other Equipment

    Door access systems
    CCTV (basic resets)
    Loading bay equipment & shutter doors
    Lifts (assisting with entrapment protocol – NOT repair)

    Qualifications & Experience

    Level 3 or NVQ in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential).
    18th Edition (desirable if electrically biased).
    Previous experience in a commercial building services role.
    Strong all-round building maintenance skills including fabric repairs.
    Ability to work independently during long shifts.
    Good communication and customer service skills.
    Must be reliable, proactive, and well‑presented.
