How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Senior / Principal Mechanical Building Services Engineer

    Warrington

    £50,000 - £65,000 DOE + Benefits

We're working with a growing integrated MEP and building physics consultancy with offices in Yorkshire and the North West. They deliver mechanical, electrical, and sustainability design across a broad range of sectors, residential, commercial, education, industrial, and retail - and they're looking for a Senior or Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their expanding team.

This is a consultancy that does things properly. Design continuity runs all the way through to site, so you'll actually see your work get built - not hand it off at Stage 3 and move on. They have a real emphasis on buildability from the earliest design stages, and the business is fully digitally operational with Revit Coordinators working alongside the engineering team on every project.

At Senior level, you'll be taking ownership of mechanical design across a live and varied project portfolio, working closely with electrical engineers, building physics specialists, BIM coordinators, architects, and main contractors. At Principal level, you'll be doing all of that whilst also leading a small team, mentoring junior engineers, and playing an active role in client relationships.

The Warrington office is going through an advanced period of growth, and this is a role where the right person will have genuine influence - on projects, on people, and on the direction of the team.

    Key Responsibilities

Leading mechanical building services design across all RIBA stages, with particular focus on Stages 3-5
Designing HVAC, heating, cooling, ventilation, and public health systems
Carrying out heat loss/gain calculations, plant sizing, and system selection
Preparing technical specifications, design reports, and construction issue drawings
Overseeing and reviewing the work of junior and intermediate engineers
Working in Revit alongside the BIM and coordination team
Attending design team, client, and contractor meetings
Managing relationships with architects, contractors, and specialist subcontractors
Supporting site inspections and responding to technical queries during construction
Contributing to fee proposals, scope reviews, and project programming (Principal level)What We're Looking For

HNC, HND, or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent
Previous mechanical building services consultancy experience at a similar level
Ability to lead mechanical design on projects from inception to completion
Strong technical knowledge across HVAC, heating, ventilation, and public health systems
Proficiency in IES, Hevacomp, Trimble, or similar mechanical design software
Experience working with Revit or AutoCAD in a BIM environment
Chartered or working towards chartership with CIBSE or IMechE
Ability to manage or mentoring junior engineers
An interest in low-carbon design, heat pump technology, and sustainable building performance
    The Culture

This is a team where people are trusted to get on with the job. There's no hierarchy for the sake of it - everyone has a voice, decisions are made collaboratively, and individuals are actively supported in developing their careers and building their own reputation in the market.

You won't be passed from team to team as a project progresses. The same engineers who design it see it delivered, which means the work is taken seriously at every stage - and at Senior or Principal level, that continuity gives you real accountability and real visibility on the projects you lead.

    Package & Benefits

Competitive salary - £50,000 to £65,000 depending on experience and level
    5% employer pension contribution
    Life assurance
    Generous annual leave entitlement
    Professional membership fees supported
    Funded training and CPD
    Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
