How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Freelance Quantity Surveyor

    Location: Dewsbury
    Sector: Civil Engineering | Highways & Rail
    12 month Contract - £400 - £450 per day (CIS or LTD Company)

    We're working with a civil engineering contractor to recruit a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to support delivery across two live infrastructure projects - a major relief road scheme (4 days per week) and a rail project (1 day per week).

    This role requires a commercially strong QS with hands-on experience in deep drainage and heavy civils, capable of operating independently across multiple workstreams.

    The Role

    You'll be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of both projects, with a primary focus on the relief road scheme, ensuring strong cost control, subcontract management and NEC contract administration.

    The role will involve close collaboration with site teams, Project Managers and the supply chain to ensure works are delivered efficiently and commercially sound.

    Key Responsibilities

    Full commercial management of deep drainage and civils packages
    Preparation and management of CVRs, forecasts and cost reporting
    Subcontract procurement, negotiation and management
    Administration of NEC contracts, including compensation events and change control
    Valuation of works and preparation of applications for payment
    Management of variations, claims and final accounts
    Monitoring project costs and identifying risks and opportunities
    Liaising with site teams to track progress and ensure accurate reporting
    Supporting both highways and rail project requirement

    What We're Looking For

    Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering
    Strong background in deep drainage and heavy civils (essential)
    Experience working on highways / road schemes
    Rail experience beneficial
    Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts
    Ability to work across multiple projects and manage workload effectively
    Confident communicator with strong commercial awareness
