How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.

    Projects Control Lead

    Location: options to be based in either Cambuslang or Edinburgh Park

    Salary up to £65,500 per year (dependent on experience), 15% Annual Bonus and Private Healthcare

    SP Energy Networks (SPEN) will be delivering £5.4b of investment in the GB electricity grid over the next 5 years. As part of this, SPT Core Projects will be delivering a ~£2bn portfolio of new overhead lines, new and upgraded substations, including design, engineering, construction and electrical works using a range of contract options.

    The Project Controls Lead (PCL) will be responsible to implement the Core Portfolio’s defined reporting, planning, cost control, risk, baseline and change ways of working within a Core Region in the Portfolio.

    The position may require travel to project sites in Scotland. The individual should be prepared to work with teams working at different locations.

    What you’ll be doing

    Embed defined Project Control standards, processes, tools and quality requirements across assigned Regional Core Portfolio in partnership with the Regional Director, Heads of Delivery and Heads of Development.

    Enable project delivery discipline by monitoring, analysing and reporting key performance indicators across all aspects of project delivery, working closely with project delivery teams and other key stakeholders

    Coordinate the integration of project schedules, budgets, risks and PBI reporting across all projects in the assigned Region to provide a consolidated Regional level view.

    Support the Core PMO Management Team (e.g. Planning & Scheduling, Pipeline, Risk, Resource & Process and PMO Reporting) to define and maintain detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implement across the Regions

    Support project controls resources implement the SPT standardised Delivery Framework across the projects and systems.

    Work closely with the Risk team to embed common Risk Registers and Risk Management processes.

    Responsible for management reporting across the assigned Region, as well as feeding inputs to the annual regulatory reporting process

    Generate Region-level reporting and actionable insights via the monthly reporting calendar in collaboration with project teams

    Support executive level reporting

    Facilitate alignment between project teams and portfolio-level controls requirements to ensure consistency in data, processes, and deliverables

    Attend regular Governance meetings as required

    Supports resolution of escalated issues or conflicts related to project controls within their Programme

    Support full adoption of digital tools (e.g. Power BI, CEMAR, P6 Primavera, etc.) in collaboration with the Core PMO team internally and externally with the supply chain

    Undertake regular stakeholder engagement with key project stakeholders (i.e. Development and Delivery Heads, Lead Project Managers, Project Managers, etc.)

    Contribute to the continuous improvement of the Core Portfolio by exploring innovative ways of working, championing Lessons Learned and introduction of best-in class industry practices

    What you’ll bring

    Experienced (5+ years) in large-scale, complex infrastructure or energy projects, with UK transmission/distribution upgrade project experience advantageous but not essential.

    Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related fields, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience.

    Demonstrates Practitioner level capability in advanced planning and scheduling practices

    Proficient in cost control and progress management

    Proficient in change management

    Experience in implementing best in class project controls KPIs in dashboards full end to end project execution

    Good working knowledge of some of the following systems (Microsoft Office, MSP, P6/OPC, SAP, Autodesk Construction Cloud, CEMAR, PBI)

    Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and driving collaboration across multiple projects and contractors.

    Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports, dashboards, and presentations tailored for senior stakeholders.

    Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, challenge, and drive decision-making at all levels of the organisation.

    Experience with governance frameworks, including portfolio, programme, and project governance, and an understanding of their practical application.

    Familiarity with NEC4 ECC Options C and E contracts, particularly in the context of project controls, risk, and change management.

    Resilient and tenacious, with the determination to achieve outcomes and overcome challenges in high-pressure environments.

    Proficient in managing and adapting to dynamic project environments, demonstrating flexibility and initiative.

    Essential Criteria

    Speak, read and write in English – Excellent level

    Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or related fields, or equivalent professional qualifications and experience

    Demonstrable experience in managing project control processes (i.e. Planning, change, risk and reporting) across multiple projects

    Proven ability to manage and influence both internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, to achieve project objectives and resolve challenges effectively.

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present and negotiate with clarity and confidence.

    Resilience and adaptability to operate effectively in dynamic and high-pressure environments
