How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Sub Agent – Rail & Structures
    Locations: Kent / Sussex / Wessex area
    Contract: Inside IR35
    We are looking for an experienced Sub Agent with strong rail and civil structures backgrounds to support upcoming portfolios across Kent, Sussex and Wessex.
    This role will focus heavily on pre‑construction, engineering coordination, planning and documentation. You’ll help shape how works are delivered, producing plans, resolving design queries and ensuring packages are ready for safe.
    Pre‑construction Planning
    * Producing construction plans, methodologies, RAMS, permits and work package documentation
    * Preparing short‑term programmes and sequencing work
    * Supporting access planning and possession preparation
    * Coordinating engineering/design input before construction begins
    Design & Engineering Coordination
    * Attending design/engineering meetings
    * Identifying and resolving design issues
    * Translating drawings into buildable solutions
    * Liaising with internal design teams and external stakeholders
    HSEQS & Assurance
    * Preparing HSEQ documentation
    * Ensuring compliance with Network Rail and project standards
    * Maintaining assurance records and safety documentation
    Delivery Coordination (not direct supervision)
    * Managing subcontractors commercially and contractually
    * Monitoring cost, progress, and reporting
    * Coordinating with site teams and third parties
    * Ensuring planned works are ready for site delivery
    What We’re Looking For
    * Strong background in rail and civil structures (bridges, culverts, retaining walls, platforms, lineside structures, etc.)
    * A civil engineering background (degree or equivalent practical experience)
    * Experience in pre‑construction planning and documentation
    * Exposure to Network Rail environments and standards
    * Ability to interpret drawings and manage engineering queries
