How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Senior Electrical Design Engineer
    Location: Wolverhampton (Hybrid Working)
    Salary: Up to £60,000 + Package
    Hours: 37 per week (flexible bands and core hours)

    Senior Electrical Design Engineer

    Join a leading UK engineering organisation near Wolverhampton with over 60 years of experience delivering high‑integrity, safety‑critical systems for regulated‑sector projects. The company designs and manufactures complex EC&I and mechanical systems in‑house, supporting full lifecycle delivery from concept to commissioning across advanced engineering programmes. Projects include large‑scale machinery, process systems, automation solutions and safety‑critical instrumentation for major Energy, Research and Defence Infrastructure facilities.

    About the Senior Electrical Design Engineer Role

    The Senior Electrical Design Engineer will lead electrical design work packages and manage a team of engineers delivering complex engineering solutions from concept through to handover. The role covers full lifecycle design, integration, testing and commissioning for high‑integrity systems in regulated environments.

    Key Responsibilities of Senior Electrical Design Engineer

    Interpret design requirements and translate them into fit‑for‑purpose engineering solutions
    Deliver design work packages within agreed time, cost and quality constraints
    Manage day‑to‑day activities of the electrical design team
    Supervise, verify and produce design deliverables including schematics, GA drawings, cable schedules and calculations
    Produce control panel designs including GAs, detailed drawings, schematics, interlock diagrams, PLC/HMI hardware, motor starters, drives, safety circuits, instrumentation and power distribution
    Coordinate with mechanical, EC&I and software disciplines
    Liaise with manufacturing, testing and commissioning teams to support build and delivery
    Ensure compliance with UK legislation, British/European standards and industry best practice
    Participate in HAZOPs, design reviews and technical risk assessments
    Manage design change control, technical queries and contract variations
    Produce technical documentation including FDS, software documentation, technical files, O&M manuals, spares lists and test documentation

    Candidate Profile

    HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline)
    Extensive electrical design engineering experience
    Demonstrable experience leading or managing design teams
    Proficient in AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical and MS Office
    Knowledge of British/European standards; IEC 61508 advantageous
    Eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC)
    Commitment to ongoing professional development (Chartership support provided)

    Salary and Benefits

    Up to £60,000 starting salary
    Hybrid and flexible working
    Pension: 5% employer / 5% employee + 3× salary Death in Service
    25 days annual leave + bank holidays + option to buy/sell up to 5 days
    Ability to accrue up to 5 additional days for authorised extra hours
