How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Location: Newcastle (hybrid with client onsite work)

    Employment Type: Permanent / Full‑time

    Salary: Up to £55,000 + 10% Sign On Bonus



    The Role of Content Designer


    We are looking for an experienced Content Designer / UX Writer to join a collaborative, multidisciplinary digital delivery team. In this role, you will use research, data, and user‑centred design principles to create clear, accessible, and consistent content across digital products and services.


    You will work across multiple client engagements and industries, helping users understand complex processes through well‑designed content, while championing User‑Centred Design (UCD) as a core delivery practice.


    This role offers the opportunity to work as the sole UX Writer within agile teams, owning content design decisions while collaborating closely with designers, researchers, developers, and stakeholders.



    What You’ll Be Doing as a Content Designer


    • Design and deliver high‑quality micro‑copy and long‑form content that is clear, accessible, and user‑focused
    • Lead content design activities, ensuring a user‑centred, evidence‑based approach across projects
    • Use research insights, analytics, and data to inform and improve content decisions
    • Collaborate with User Researchers, UX Designers, Developers, Business Analysts, and Subject Matter Experts
    • Ensure content is factually accurate, up to date, and aligned with user needs
    • Understand and improve end‑to‑end user journeys, using UX writing to simplify complex language and processes
    • Present and explain content decisions to internal teams and client stakeholders
    • Continuously iterate and improve content based on user feedback, usability testing, and best practices
    • Ensure compliance with accessibility standards, legal and regulatory requirements
    • Work independently to a high standard as the UX writing specialist within Agile/Scrum teams



    Essential Skills & Experience of the Content Designer


    • Experience working as a Content Designer or UX Writer using User‑Centred Design principles
    • Hands‑on experience applying Government Digital Service (GDS) design principles
    • Proven ability to advocate for User‑Centred Design within delivery teams
    • Experience influencing and negotiating with senior stakeholders
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
    • Experience working with brand tone of voice guidelines, design patterns, and style guides



    Desirable Experience of the Content Designer


    • Working in an Agile or multidisciplinary delivery environment
    • Using Markdown and/or HTML
    • Experience working across multiple clients or digital service environments
