How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Cover Supervisor (Temporary / Flexible) - Hackney

    What is a Cover Supervisor?

A cover supervisor is responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. Their primary role is to ensure that students remain engaged in learning activities while following the teacher's lesson plan. Cover supervisors do not usually teach new content or provide subject-specific expertise. Instead, they maintain order in the classroom, oversee the completion of work assigned by the absent teacher, and provide support where needed.

Do you need formal teaching qualifications?

No! While you'll need strong communication and organizational skills, you don't necessarily need formal teaching qualifications to become a cover supervisor. This makes it an accessible entry point for those interested in working in education but not yet ready to commit to full-time teaching qualifications.
Why work as a Cover Supervisor?

    Gain Experience in Education

Teaching Experience: For those considering a career in teaching, working as a cover supervisor provides valuable experience in a school environment. It gives you the chance to learn how classrooms are managed and how to engage with students of various ages and abilities.
Classroom Management Skills: You'll develop strong classroom management techniques, which are essential for anyone considering teaching or other roles working with young people.
    Opportunity for Career Progression

With experience, cover supervisors can move into more senior roles within schools, such as pastoral support, teaching assistant, or even school management roles, depending on their interests and further qualifications.
Experience, Training and Qualifications required for the Cover Supervisor position:

Previous experience working with children or young people is desirable but not essential.
Ideally hold a degree in a relevant subject area.
A passion for working with children and young people.
You will be proactive and adaptable, with lots of energy and enthusiasm.
To be eligible for the Cover Supervisor position through Prospero Teaching you must:

Hold Right to Work in the UK
Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
    Provide two professional references
