How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Town Planner - York (Hybrid/Flexible Working Available)

I'm currently working with a highly respected, independent planning and rural consultancy that is looking to appoint a talented Town Planner to join its growing team based in York. This is an excellent opportunity for a planning professional who is keen to work on a diverse portfolio of rural, residential, and strategic development projects across the UK.

    The Role

As a Town Planner, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality planning advice and managing projects from initial appraisal through to determination. You'll be working closely with a collaborative and multidisciplinary team, supporting clients that range from private landowners to developers and institutional clients.

    Key responsibilities will include:

Preparing and submitting planning applications and appeals
Undertaking site appraisals and planning research
Providing clear, commercially focused planning advice to clients
Managing projects and liaising with stakeholders, local authorities, and consultants
Supporting senior colleagues on complex and strategic planning projects

    About You

I'm keen to speak with candidates who are:

MRTPI qualified (or working towards chartership)
Educated to degree level in Town Planning or a related discipline
Experienced in the UK planning system (private or public sector)
A strong communicator with excellent report-writing skills
Proactive, commercially aware, and able to manage multiple projects

    What's on Offer

    Competitive salary (dependent on experience)
    Flexible/hybrid working arrangements
Strong support for professional development and career progression
Opportunity to work on unique rural and land-based projects
Friendly, close-knit team environment with a strong reputation in the sector

    Why Consider This Opportunity?

This role offers the chance to join a well-established consultancy with a distinctive niche in rural planning. You'll gain exposure to a wide variety of interesting projects and benefit from a supportive culture that genuinely invests in its people.

If you're a Town Planner looking for your next move in the York area, I'd be very interested in having a confidential conversation
