How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    PCV/HGV Auto Electrician - Coach Fleet
    Location: Taunton, Somerset (on-site)
    Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
    Pay: £19.00-£22.00 per hour (DOE)

    A well-established South West coach operator is seeking an experienced PCV/HGV Auto Electrician to join their busy workshop team in Taunton. You'll be the go-to person for electrical diagnostics, fault finding, and repairs, working independently on complex issues as well as alongside the workshop team to ensure the reliability of a 60-vehicle coach fleet.

    The Role

    Working on a modern and varied fleet of PCV/HGV vehicles, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing electrical and electronic systems to ensure vehicles remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Electrical and electronic fault finding/diagnostics on PCV/HGV vehicles using diagnostic tools and test equipment
    Repair and replacement of electrical components including starters, alternators, batteries/charging systems, lighting, switches, sensors, and control units
    Wiring repairs including loom repairs, connectors, shorts/earth faults, and carrying out electrical installations as required
    Supporting roadside and running repairs when rostered on call-out
    Assisting with MOT preparation and ensuring defects are rectified promptly to a high standard
    Ensuring vehicles are maintained in line with Operator Licence requirements and company standards
    Completing all paperwork accurately, including job cards, service sheets, and defect reports

    Working Hours

    Shift rotation:

    06:30 - 14:30
    08:00 - 16:30
    10:00 - 18:30Overtime is available after hours and at weekends depending on preference and operational need.

    Call-out is paid at enhanced rates, normally with a minimum of 3 hours paid, even if the job takes less time. Short fixes are paid at double time.

    What We're Looking For

    Qualified PSV/PCV or HGV technician (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent)
    Minimum 2 years' experience in PCV/HGV/coach/bus maintenance with strong auto-electrical capability
    Confident working independently and as part of a workshop team
    Strong attention to detail and high standards of paperwork

    Desirable:

    Proven experience with diagnostics and complex electrical fault finding on coaches/buses
    Experience with roadside repairs and on-call work
