How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Operations / Technical Director - Specialist Construction Sub-Contractor

    Widnes (Hybrid) | National Travel - £70,000 - £90,000 + Bonus (up to 50%) + Car / Allowance + Benefits

    A well-established North West-based specialist construction sub-contractor is seeking an experienced Operations / Technical Director to join its senior leadership team. With a turnover of circa £25m and a national delivery footprint, the business delivers technically complex projects across industrial and commercial environments.

    The Role

    Reporting to the Managing Director, you will have full accountability for operational delivery, leading project and contract teams, site operatives, and business support functions. You will shape operational strategy, strengthen technical capability, and drive commercial performance across the business, ensuring safe, profitable, and high-quality project delivery.

    Key Responsibilities

    Strategic Operational Leadership

    Lead and develop project, contract, and site teams to ensure operational excellence

    Drive efficiency, scalable processes, and margin improvement

    Act as escalation point for major projects, client relationships, and operational risks

    Embed a high-performance culture and align operational capability with growth targets

    Technical & Commercial Oversight

    Provide senior technical guidance across complex installations

    Collaborate on major bids, technical proposals, and strategic accounts

    Strengthen supplier relationships and optimise procurement

    Ensure projects deliver on gross margin and profitability targets

    Health, Safety & Governance

    Champion a zero-harm culture across all operations

    Ensure compliance with health, safety, and ISO standards

    Lead continuous improvement in operational governance and quality

    Business & Financial Leadership

    Oversee operational budgeting, forecasting, KPIs, and WIP reporting

    Lead workforce planning, recruitment, and succession development

    Support capital investment decisions to enhance long-term capability

    Candidate Profile

    Experienced leader of large operational teams (80-100+ people) in £10m+ turnover specialist contracting

    Strong commercial acumen with evidence of margin improvement

    Ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on operational leadership

    Credibility with clients, suppliers, and senior stakeholders

    Experience in flooring or specialist subcontracting sectors advantageous

    Package

    £70,000 - £90,000 basic salary

    Performance bonus up to 50% (80% company / 20% personal performance)

    Car or car allowance

    Pension: 5% Employee / 5% Employer

    24 days holiday + bank holidays

    Death in service: 3x salary
