How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Town Planner
    Location: Bristol

    Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a respected planning consultancy in their search for a Senior Town Planner to join their growing team in Bristol.

    This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planner to join a well-established consultancy working across a diverse portfolio of projects within the residential, commercial, and mixed-use sectors. The successful Senior Town Planner will play a key role in managing projects, supporting clients through the planning process, and contributing to the continued growth of the team.

    The Role

    As a Senior Town Planner, you will lead on a variety of planning projects while working closely with clients, local authorities, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver successful planning outcomes.

    You will be responsible for managing planning applications, providing strategic planning advice, and supporting junior members of the team, while contributing to projects from early-stage feasibility through to determination.

    Key Responsibilities

    Preparing and managing a range of planning applications and appeals

    Providing strategic planning advice to a variety of clients

    Leading on site appraisals and feasibility assessments

    Preparing planning statements and supporting documentation

    Liaising with Local Planning Authorities and key project stakeholders

    Managing multiple projects and meeting client deadlines

    Supporting and mentoring junior members of the planning team

    Candidate Requirements

    RTPI accredited degree in Town Planning or a related discipline

    Chartered Member of the RTPI (or working towards chartership)

    Several years' experience within a planning consultancy or local authority environment

    Strong knowledge of UK planning policy and legislation

    Excellent report writing and project management skills

    Strong communication and client-facing abilities

    A proactive and commercially aware approach to planning
