How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join a busy laboratory team. The successful candidate will perform routine laboratory tasks, support experimental work, and help maintain a safe, efficient working environment.

    Job Title: Laboratory Technician

    Pay: £12.88-£13.38 per hour, paid weekly

    Location: Sandycroft

    Hours: Mon-Fri 8.30am-5pm

    Key responsibilities:
    - Prepare samples according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
    - Carry out routine analyses, assays and tests accurately and consistently
    - Operate and maintain common laboratory equipment (e.g., centrifuges, spectrophotometers, pH meters, microscopes)
    - Record, analyse and report data clearly and promptly; maintain laboratory notebooks and electronic records
    - Perform equipment calibration, cleaning and basic troubleshooting
    - Monitor inventory, order supplies and manage stocks
    - Follow health, safety and waste disposal procedures; ensure compliance with relevant regulations and quality standards
    - Support quality control activities, including running controls and participating in audits
    - Assist senior staff with experimental setups and ad hoc tasks as required

    Required skills and experience:
    - Relevant scientific qualification (e.g., BTEC/NVQ/HNC/HND in a laboratory discipline, A-levels with science subjects, or equivalent practical experience)
    - Proven hands-on laboratory experience and familiarity with routine lab techniques
    - Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills
    - Accurate pipetting and sample handling skills
    - Competent IT skills, including experience with spreadsheets and electronic data entry
    - Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
    - Understanding of laboratory health & safety, including safe handling of chemicals and biological materials
