How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Workshop Team Leader

    Hours: 45 hours per week (split shifts between 06:00–18:00)
    Salary: £38,520 – £40,500 per annum + £3,425 shift allowance (dependent on experience)

    Lead from the front. Keep a vital fleet moving. Make a real local impact.

    An established and highly respected environmental and highways services organisation in North Somerset is seeking an experienced Workshop Team Leader to oversee the safe, compliant and efficient operation of a busy commercial vehicle maintenance workshop based in Weston-super-Mare.

    This organisation delivers essential frontline services across the region, supporting over 100,000 households and businesses, managing waste and recycling facilities, maintaining more than 1,100km of highways, and operating a diverse HGV and plant fleet. The workshop plays a critical role in keeping these services running — and this role is key to its success.

    The Role of the Workshop Team Leader

    As Senior Team Leader, you will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the workshop team and the effective maintenance of a large commercial fleet. You’ll combine strong technical expertise with confident leadership, ensuring safety, compliance, productivity and quality are always at the forefront.

    Key responsibilities include:

    * Leading, supervising and developing workshop staff, ensuring high standards of performance, training and wellbeing

    * Overseeing fleet servicing, repairs and diagnostics in line with legal, manufacturer and quality requirements

    * Promoting a strong health, safety and environmental culture, including incident investigation and prevention

    * Planning workloads and resources to minimise vehicle downtime and maximise productivity

    * Managing stock, records and documentation accurately and efficiently

    * Providing technical guidance and making informed decisions on repairs versus replacement

    * Building effective relationships with suppliers, contractors and internal customers to ensure value for money and timely delivery

    About You

    You’ll be an experienced HGV Technician with proven supervisory capability and a strong understanding of workshop operations in a regulated environment.

    You’ll ideally have:

    * HGV City & Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent)

    * Supervisory NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent experience)

    * At least 5 years’ experience as a Commercial Vehicle (HGV) Technician

    * Strong working knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, including COSHH

    * Up-to-date understanding of vehicle maintenance legislation and operator licensing

    * The ability to work independently, safely and competently in a physically demanding role

    * Confident decision-making skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach

    What’s on Offer for the Workshop Team Leader

    This role offers long-term stability, development and an excellent benefits package within an organisation that genuinely invests in its people.

    Benefits include:

    * Competitive salary plus shift allowance

    * Company pension (3% employer contribution)

    * Free life assurance

    * Cycle to Work scheme

    * Internal promotion and career progression opportunities

    * Access to an in-house Driver Training Academy

    * Ongoing professional development, including formal qualifications

    * Free on-site parking

    * 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for you and your household

    * Local gym discounts, including swimming and fitness classes
