How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Secondary Supply Teacher – Birmingham, West Midlands

    Location: Birmingham (All Areas)

    Job Type: Daily Supply / Short-Term / Long-Term

    Salary: £130 – £200 per day (DOE)

    Category: Secondary Teaching

Are you a Secondary Teacher looking for a fairer, more flexible way to work?

Zen Educate is currently recruiting Secondary Teachers across all subject specialisms for daily supply and short-term cover roles in Birmingham. Whether you are looking for a better work-life balance, seeking variety in different West Midlands schools, or are an ECT looking to gain experience, we have the right opportunities for you.

As a Social Enterprise, Zen Educate is changing the recruitment landscape. We believe that more money should stay in the Birmingham education system. By using technology to connect Secondary Teachers directly with schools, we remove the high costs of traditional agencies—meaning higher pay for you and lower costs for schools.

    The Role

As a Secondary Supply Teacher in Birmingham, you will work across various departments to ensure pupils continue to progress in the absence of their regular teacher. Your role will involve:

    *

Delivering pre-planned lessons across Key Stage 3 (KS3) and Key Stage 4 (KS4).

    *

Using your subject knowledge to engage students and answer curriculum-based questions.

    *

Following school behaviour policies to maintain a focused and safe learning environment.

    *

Providing high-quality feedback and marking to ensure a smooth transition for the returning teacher.

    The Zen Educate Advantage

Joining a Social Enterprise offers a transparent and ethical alternative to traditional agencies:

    *

Competitive Pay: Earn between £130 and £200 per day, reflecting your experience and expertise.

    *

No "Temp-to-Perm" Fees: We never charge Birmingham schools a fee to take you on permanently. If you find a school you love, we make the move easy.

    *

Smart App Technology: Manage your own diary, browse local Secondary Teacher jobs, and get paid weekly with ease.

    *

Supportive Community: Gain access to free CPD, a dedicated consultant, and a platform that puts the welfare of teachers first.

    Requirements

To be successful as a Secondary Supply Teacher in Birmingham, you must have:

    *

Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.

    *

Experience teaching within a Secondary school setting in the UK.

    *

A flexible and adaptable approach to different school environments.

    *

A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).

    *

The right to work in the UK and a commitment to schools in the West Midlands.
