How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Secondary Cover Supervisor – Birmingham, West Midlands

Location: Birmingham (City Centre, Edgbaston, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield)

    Job Type: Daily Cover / Short-Term / Long-Term Roles

    Salary: £95 – £120 per day (DOE)

    Category: Education / Secondary Support

Are you an experienced Cover Supervisor looking for a fairer way to work?

Zen Educate is currently recruiting confident and experienced Cover Supervisors to work across a variety of Secondary Schools in Birmingham. Whether you are looking for the total flexibility of daily cover or the consistency of a short-term or long-term placement, we have opportunities available for an immediate start.

As a Social Enterprise, Zen Educate is different from a traditional agency. We use smart technology to connect Secondary Cover Supervisors directly with schools in the West Midlands. This means we can offer you a higher daily rate while simultaneously saving schools money.

    The Role

As a Secondary Cover Supervisor in Birmingham, you will be responsible for overseeing classrooms in the absence of the regular teacher. Your key duties will include:

    *

Classroom Management: Maintaining a positive and focused learning environment for pupils aged 11–16.

    *

Lesson Delivery: Ensuring students complete the work set by the department and stay on task.

    *

Problem Solving: Responding to any queries from students and managing behaviour according to school policy.

    *

Handover: Providing clear feedback to the school at the end of the day regarding student progress and any issues encountered.

    The Zen Educate Advantage

Joining a Social Enterprise means you are part of a movement to put more money back into Birmingham classrooms.

    *

Competitive Pay: We pay our Cover Supervisors between £95 and £120 per day, depending on experience—consistently higher than the industry average.

    *

Transparent Ethics: We do not believe in restrictive "buy-out" fees. If a Birmingham school wants to offer you a permanent position, we support you in making that transition.

    *

User-Friendly App: Update your availability, view school profiles, and accept Secondary Cover Supervisor roles in the West Midlands at the touch of a button.

    *

Work Locally: We focus on finding you roles in your preferred areas of Birmingham to keep your commute manageable.

    Requirements

To be a successful Secondary Cover Supervisor in Birmingham, you must have:

    *

Experience: Proven experience managing groups of teenagers in a classroom or similar setting (e.g., coaching, youth work, or military training).

    *

Confidence: The ability to command respect and maintain authority in a Secondary school environment.

    *

Adaptability: A flexible approach and the ability to cover a wide range of subjects.

    *

Compliance: A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to apply for one).

    *

Right to Work: Eligibility to work in the UK.
