How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Civil Engineer - Highways | birmingham | Competitive Salary + Package

    The role and responsibilities
    As a Civil Engineer, you will play a key role in the planning, coordination, and delivery of highway projects, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
    You will be doing:
    ·Producing and reviewing permits to break ground to a high-quality standard
    ·Supporting quality assurance and quality control processes, ensuring standards are consistently met
    ·Ensuring Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) are in place and regularly reviewed
    ·Managing the MAR process and work specifications
    ·Issuing and controlling RAMS and permits
    ·Conducting Cat & Genny surveys and reviewing outputs
    ·Carrying out setting out activities on site
    ·Managing document control and project records

    Skills and experience required
    To succeed as a Civil Engineer, you will bring:
    ·Experience in highways, civil engineering, or drainage projects
    ·Strong understanding of CDM regulations and principal contractor duties
    ·Knowledge of National Highways specifications and expectations
    ·Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively
    ·A proactive approach with strong attention to detail

    Qualifications
    You will ideally have:
    ·CSCS Black or Gold Card
    ·SMSTS or SSSTS certification
    ·Full UK Driving Licence
    ·Awareness of Health and Safety legislation
    ·GCSE (or equivalent) Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above)
