How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Office based in Ilkeston, Derbyshire
    šŸ“„ Permanent
    šŸ’° Circa Ā£70,000 + Benefits
šŸ— Hybrid Working – East Midlands Construction Sites

This role is for a Civil Project Manager responsible for delivering projects within the water and wastewater sector, covering full project lifecycle from planning through to commissioning and handover. The position is based out of the Ilkeston office with travel to sites, working across live operational environments where minimising disruption to services is key.

The role focuses on managing civil infrastructure schemes (pipelines, pumping stations, treatment works, reservoirs), ensuring delivery is safe, compliant, on programme, and within budget. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage contractors and supply chain, and administer projects under NEC3/NEC4 contracts, including handling early warnings, compensation events, and change control. Strong stakeholder engagement is required across operations teams, regulators, landowners, and clients.

From a client perspective, this is a well-structured engineering organisation operating in the regulated water sector, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and long-term asset performance. Projects are delivered in live environments, so there is a heavy emphasis on operational awareness, quality assurance, and risk management. The business promotes a collaborative and improvement-driven culture, with clear frameworks around engineering standards and delivery practices.

    Key Requirements

    * Proven years of experience within the water industry

    * Strong civil engineering background (pipelines, treatment works, drainage, earthworks)

    * Proven NEC3/NEC4 contract administration experience

    * Experience managing programme, cost, risk, and delivery performance

    * Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage supply chain

    * Strong stakeholder management across operational and regulatory environments

    * Degree in Civil Engineering (or similar)

    * CSCS card + HSE qualifications (SMSTS / IOSH or equivalent)

    * Full UK driving licence

    Package / Benefits

    * Company car or car allowance (dependent on salary/grade)

    * Private healthcare (linked to grading)

    * Pension and wider benefits package
