How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    W Talent is delighted to be partnering with a leading manufacturer within the tissue paper industry based in Oldham. The company supplies high-quality products and operates a fast-paced, high-volume manufacturing facility. The business is now seeking an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to support operations on site.

    This is a key role within the Engineering team, responsible for maintaining and improving the performance of production machinery, ensuring minimal downtime, and supporting the overall efficiency of the manufacturing process.

    The Role

    The successful candidate will play a vital role in delivering both preventative and reactive maintenance across a range of converting equipment. Working closely with Production and Operations teams, the Mechanical Maintenance Engineer will ensure machinery is operating safely, efficiently, and reliably.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Carry out planned preventative maintenance across all production equipment

    * Respond to breakdowns quickly and effectively to minimise downtime

    * Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on a range of machinery

    * Work on key equipment including rewinders, lop saws, wrappers, baggers, and core-making machinery

    * Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine reliability and performance

    * Ensure all maintenance work is completed in line with health & safety regulations

    * Maintain accurate maintenance records and update internal systems

    * Assist with machine installations, upgrades, and project work where required

    * Work collaboratively with production teams to ensure smooth operations

    * Identify recurring issues and recommend long-term solutions

    Key Requirements

    * Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role within a manufacturing environment

    * Experience working with high-speed production or converting machinery (desirable)

    * Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills

    * Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems

    * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

    * Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to work

    * Relevant engineering qualification (NVQ, City & Guilds, or equivalent) preferred

    Salary & Benefits

    A competitive salary of £35,000-£50,000 plus a benefits package is on offer, including:

    * 28 days holiday (including bank holidays)

    * Pension contribution (3% employer / 5% employee)
