How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Role: Field Service Engineer

    Location: Liverpool - with travel

    Salary: Up to £50,000 depending on experience

    Our client is looking for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join our expanding service team based in Liverpool.

    You will deliver a broad range of engineering services across the UK and, where required, internationally, including offshore and marine sectors. The role combines workshop-based preparation and refurbishment with on-site service, fault investigation, and system commissioning.

    Responsibilities:

    Conduct service, maintenance, life extension, upgrades, and commissioning of electrical switchgear and related equipment
    Prepare, test, and refurbish systems in the workshop for deployment
    Respond to technical queries from customers, providing practical and professional support
    Undertake pre-mobilisation planning, including risk assessments, method statements, and job preparation
    Execute fault-finding, breakdown investigations, and repair of switchgear systems
    Perform protection relay testing, upgrade, and generate associated reports
    Lead on-site safely, coordinating with subcontractors or client teams where applicable
    Produce accurate technical documentation, service reports, and expense submissions
    Participate in out-of-hours callouts when required
    Promote and maintain a strong Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) culture both internally and on customer sites

    Skills & Experience

    Time-served electrical apprenticeship or equivalent
    Qualification in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience
    Good understanding of electrical switchgear operation, maintenance, and fault-finding
    Ability to produce clear, concise technical reports
    Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering high-quality service
    Able to manage a diverse and dynamic workload
    Excellent verbal and written communication
    Methodical, safety-conscious approach to engineering tasks
