To provide high-quality nursing care to older residents in a care home setting, many of whom may have a range of complex conditions, including dementia, frailty, chronic illnesses, or sensory impairments. The RGN will ensure residents’ physical, emotional, and psychological well-being is supported in a safe, compassionate, and person-centred environment. The role involves working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and carers to deliver exceptional standards of care tailored to the diverse needs of an older population.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Care:
* Deliver direct nursing care to older residents, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
* Administer medications safely in accordance with NMC guidelines.
* Monitor and manage residents’ health, including chronic conditions, acute illnesses, and end-of-life care.
* Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential nursing records.
* Implement care plans in line with individual resident needs and preferences.
Dementia & Older Adult Care:
* Promote a person-centred approach to care, recognising individual needs, behaviours, and cognitive abilities.
* Support residents with dementia, frailty, or sensory impairments, ensuring dignity and independence are maintained.
* Use appropriate communication techniques for residents with cognitive or sensory challenges.
* Implement therapeutic activities and interventions tailored to residents’ abilities and interests.
Teamwork & Leadership:
* Supervise and support junior staff, healthcare assistants, and agency nurses.
* Participate in staff training and professional development initiatives.
* Liaise with families, carers, GPs, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Compliance & Safety:
* Ensure compliance with CQC standards, NMC guidelines, and care home policies.
* Maintain infection control standards and health & safety protocols.
* Report and escalate clinical incidents promptly.
Qualifications & Experience:
* Registered General Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration.
* Experience in elderly care, residential care, or dementia care is highly desirable.
* Knowledge of person-centred care, dementia care best practices, and older adult care approaches.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
