How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job Title: Lead Civil Engineer

    Rate: £50 - £60 per hour (dependent on experience)

    Location: Birmingham / Glasgow / Chester / Leeds (Flexible UK base / hybrid)

    Type: Contract - Inside IR35, Hybrid

    About the Role:
    Our client is seeking Lead Civil Engineers to join their Delivery group, working on non-infrastructure UK water engineering projects. You will act as a technical specialist and/or in a lead role, developing and applying advanced engineering techniques, while guiding project teams to deliver high-quality outputs.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Provide guidance on design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes.
    Prepare calculations and develop civil engineering deliverables (models, drawings, reports) within budget, schedule, and quality standards.
    Mentor and develop junior staff while promoting continuous improvement.
    Coordinate with internal and external teams on complex projects.
    Develop recommendations for materials, construction techniques, and project specifications.
    Serve as a technical specialist providing advice and guidance to project teams.
    Ensure compliance with all health & safety duties of designers.

    What Our Client is Looking For:

    Civil Engineering design and/or hydraulics/structural background.
    Experience in design and build, particularly non-infrastructure water/wastewater treatment works.
    Proven ability to lead and manage a multidisciplinary team (civil, structural, geotechnical, hydraulics).
    Strong interpersonal skills to interface across disciplines and deliver engineering outputs efficiently.
