How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Cadent Gas Ltd

Support the commercial insight that drives our Capital Delivery programme

As our Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the Capital Delivery directorate, you’ll play a key part in the commercial and financial management of construction and infrastructure projects across Cadent’s portfolio. This isn’t just about reviewing costs or checking invoices – this is about supporting project teams to deliver value for money, ensuring contract compliance and providing the analysis that helps us make informed commercial decisions.

In this permanent role, you’ll work closely with Commercial Managers, Project Quantity Surveyors and project teams to support tendering activity, contract management, cost assurance and project forecasting. You’ll help maintain accurate commercial records, engage with contractors, attend site visits and contribute to the development of robust commercial processes that underpin successful project delivery.

It’s a fantastic opportunity to grow your commercial expertise, work on diverse infrastructure schemes and develop a career within a strategic and high‑impact function.

    Why you’ll love this role:
Commercial Support – Assist with managing contracts, reviewing costs and ensuring compliance with commercial frameworks.
Tendering & Contract Creation – Support the preparation of contract data, mini‑tenders and scope information for new work packages.
Cost Assurance – Collate, challenge and report on contractor costs to ensure value for money and accurate financial performance.
Site Engagement – Attend construction sites to review progress, validate costs and identify early warnings or risks.
Forecasting & Reporting – Support the development of commercial forecasts and provide regular reporting to key stakeholders.
Governance & Compliance – Ensure adherence to commercial procedures, change management processes and financial controls.
Stakeholder Collaboration – Build strong relationships across Capital Delivery, Commercial, Finance, Procurement and supply chain partners. What you’ll bring:
Experience or training in quantity surveying, ideally within NEC‑based contract environments.
Understanding of unit cost principles, cost modelling, benchmarking and commercial drivers.
Ability to analyse cost data, review contractor submissions and support commercial decision‑making.
Strong communication skills and confidence working with internal teams and contractors.
High attention to detail and accuracy in maintaining commercial records and documentation.
A proactive, organised and solutions‑focused approach to work.
Working towards (or aspiring to work towards) a relevant professional accreditation. Qualifications:

    Valid UK driving licence

If you’re ready to develop your commercial expertise and play a key role in the delivery of our Capital Delivery programme, apply now.

Interviews will be held from Monday 20th April onwards.

Disclaimer: While the closing date is set as mentioned, we reserve the right to close the application process earlier if necessary, depending on the unique circumstances of each role.
