How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Senior Civil Engineer
    Newcastle

This is an opportunity to join a well-established, privately owned Consultancy with a strong reputation across the North East for delivering high-quality Civil Engineering solutions. With a growing and diverse workload spanning both public and private sector clients, they are now looking to appoint a Senior Civil Engineer to play a key role in the continued development of their Newcastle team.

The successful candidate will take ownership of project delivery, leading civil engineering schemes from initial feasibility and site appraisal through planning, detailed design and into construction. Working within a collaborative, technically strong team, you will be responsible for producing and reviewing design outputs, managing project programmes, and ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to a consistently high standard.

Projects are varied and include residential developments, commercial schemes, mixed-use masterplans and specialist sectors such as extra care, offering a broad and engaging workload. The role will suit someone who enjoys both the technical and coordination aspects of consultancy, with the ability to manage multiple projects while supporting and mentoring more junior engineers.

From a technical perspective, the role requires strong experience in drainage and highway design, including SuDS strategies, Flood Risk Assessments and earthworks. You will be confident producing detailed design calculations, technical reports and drawings, and have a solid understanding of UK design standards and approvals processes, including Water UK Sewerage Sector Guidance, Manual for Streets and the Design Manual for Roads & Bridges.

Applicants are expected to have a degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering and will typically have gained at least four years' experience within a UK Consultancy environment. Experience working with residential developers and an understanding of the planning process will be highly beneficial. You should also be comfortable using industry-standard software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or Flow, and related infrastructure design tools.

This is a role that offers genuine scope for progression within a growing Consultancy, where engineers are given responsibility, autonomy and the support needed to develop their careers. The business prides itself on a pragmatic, client-focused approach, delivering practical and cost-effective solutions while maintaining strong long-term relationships.
