How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Manual Horizontal OR Vertical Borer Setter/Operator

    Location - Ashton‑under‑Lyne

    About the Role

    Our client is a precision engineering and machining provider, specialising in sub-contract machining of medium-to-heavy components across sectors such as automotive, aerospace, power generation, and offshore industries. They operate from a modern manufacturing facility equipped to handle large and complex workpieces, with a strong focus on quality, safety, and delivery to specification.

    We are currently seeking an experienced Manual Horizontal OR Vertical Borer Setter/Operator to join.

    Key Responsibilities

    * Set and operate manual Horizontal/Vertical boring machines to produce medium-to-heavy workpieces.

    * Work from customer-issued drawings and specifications.

    * Perform self-inspections to ensure quality standards are met.

    * Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping.

    * Be willing to work overtime as required.

    Candidate Requirements

    * Proven experience operating manual horizontal boring machines or a milling background.

    * Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.

    * Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-inspect.

    * Reliable, motivated, and able to work independently.

    Working Hours

    Day Shift:

    * Pay range: £15.00 – £18.00 per hour (skill dependent)

    * Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 16:30

    * Friday: 08:00 – 13:00

    * Total: 37 paid hours per week

    * 30-minute unpaid lunch Monday – Thursday; no lunch Friday

    * Expected minimum of 11 hours overtime per week

    * Overtime: T+1/3 (Sunday: T+1/2)

    Night Shift:

    * Pay range: £19.95 – £23.94 per hour (skill dependent)

    * Monday – Thursday: 18:00 – 06:00 (4 x 12-hour shifts)

    * Paid lunch break included

    * Overtime available Friday after 13:00, Saturday, and Sunday

    * Overtime: T+1/2

    Compensation

    * Company pension: total contribution 8% (5% employee, 3% employer)

    * Health & Safety bonus: £250 every 6 months for qualifying employees
