How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Associate Director - Electrical Engineering
    Location: Bolton
    Salary: Up to £75,000
    Job Ref: 39636

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical Engineer ready to step into an Associate Director role within a well-established Building Services Consultancy. This position offers the chance to work in a client-focused environment with a long-standing, secure pipeline of projects across a diverse range of sectors.

Based in Bolton, you will also attend design team meetings and site visits across Manchester, the wider North West and occasionally throughout the UK. The business operates across multiple offices and has built a strong reputation for delivering innovative, practical, and technically robust engineering solutions.

This role will see you leading electrical design delivery from feasibility through to RIBA Stage 5, working on a wide variety of projects including commercial developments, pharmaceutical facilities, residential schemes, leisure projects, and mixed-use developments. The pharmaceutical work in particular offers exposure to complex technical environments such as laboratories alongside more traditional office and refurbishment projects.

You will work alongside a strong multi-disciplinary team, including mechanical counterparts and senior engineers, while also playing a key role in managing client relationships and contributing to the strategic direction of projects. It is particularly important that you are comfortable with being client facing and being involved in design team meetings.

    Key Responsibilities:

Lead electrical design projects from concept through to detailed design (RIBA Stage 4) and as built stages (Stage 5)
Chair and contribute to Design Team Meetings across multiple sites
Act as a key client-facing representative, building and maintaining strong relationships
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers
Oversee project resourcing, programme delivery, and commercial performance
Support tendering processes, fee proposals, and project estimation
Ensure designs align with sustainability goals and carbon reduction targetsKey Requirements:

Strong technical expertise in Electrical Building Services design
Proven experience delivering projects across sectors such as commercial, residential, or pharmaceutical
Ability to lead projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
Experience in client-facing roles and stakeholder management
Knowledge of sustainable design principles and renewable technologies
Experience with tendering, and resource planning
Ability to work autonomously while contributing to a collaborative team environmentChartership is desirable but not essential; equivalent experience will be considered. Ideally, you will hold an HNC, Degree, or Master's qualification in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.

This is an excellent opportunity for an existing Associate or a Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer looking to step up into a leadership role within a growing consultancy that offers stability, variety of work, and genuine career progression in a supportive, non-bureaucratic environment.
