How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

Due to continuing growth, Grid Point are seeking to expand our roving site engineering team. We are looking for an experienced Site Engineer / Engineering Surveyor to join our established team, covering the Southern Home Counties and South Coast region. This is a permanent, salaried position suited to someone based in Surrey, Hampshire or Sussex. The role is highly autonomous and would suit an engineer who is confident working independently and taking ownership of their work.

    JOB TITLE

Roving Site Engineer / Engineering Surveyor

    WORKING HOURS
Typical working hours are 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday. As the role is task-based, efficient completion of site activities can allow for flexibility in the working day.

Due to the nature of site operations, flexibility is required, and occasional additional hours or weekend work may be requested, depending on project requirements. These infrequent instances will be paid as overtime.

    ROLE OVERVIEW

You will generally attend one project per day and we will endeavour to allocate work within the region in which you are based. There may be occasions where project requirements involve additional travel or overnight stays, in which case, all reasonable expenses are covered.

Workloads are planned to be manageable, with daily assignment typically focused on a single site for each day. Typical working hours are 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday, with workloads planned around the completion of agreed site activities. Where works are completed satisfactorily and the client has signed a timesheet, this can on occasion allow for earlier finishes.

You will be provided with a Leica GPS instrument, TS16 total station and CS20 controller, and a laptop with AutoCAD.

Typical duties include (but are not limited to):

    * Introducing primary control and datums

    * Setting out including, but not limited to: gridlines, bolt sets, shutters, pop-ups, manholes, kerbs and associated elements

    * Undertaking various site surveys and producing AutoCAD outputs

    * Carrying out verticality checks on various features

    * Undertaking pre-pour inspections including holding down bolts, shutters and reinforcement

    * Completing as-built surveys including slab levels, positions and bolt locations

    * Interpreting drawings and resolving any potential setting out discrepancies on site

    * Updating the Grid Point drawing register

    * Ensuring works are delivered efficiently and within agreed timeframes

    LOCATION

Roving across the Southern region, to include Hampshire, Sussex and Kent. Work is planned regionally where possible, and you will generally attend one site per day. Flexibility is required, as there may be occasions where additional travel or attendance at a second site is needed to support operational requirements.

Workloads are planned to be efficient and manageable. Occasional overnight stays may be required, depending on project location. All reasonable expenses are covered.

    SALARY

£50,000 to £65,000 per annum depending on experience.

    ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

    * Minimum 4 years’ UK site engineering or surveying experience

    * Proven ability to work independently on active construction sites

    * Strong AutoCAD capability (essential)

    * Proficient with robotic total stations (Leica preferred)

    * Solid setting out and surveying experience with strong references

    * Clear communication skills and ability to liaise confidently with site teams

    * Valid CSCS card

    * Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

    * Right to work in the UK

    DESIRABLE

    • Experience working with another survey company, and/or main contractors

    • Experience in concrete frames, steel frames or groundworks

    • Relevant qualification (HNC, HND or Degree) advantageous but not essential

    APPLICATION

Please respond by submitting your CV. We cannot guarantee that we will respond to your submission, if you are not UK based; do not have relevant UK experience; or do not meet the criteria stipulated above
