How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    We are looking for a highly capable and adaptable Software Engineer to join the Software Simulation team in Stevenage!

    Salary: Circa £65,000 depending on experience

    Dynamic (hybrid) working: Office based due to workload classification.

    Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship .

    Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

    The opportunity:

    Software developer for a data logging subsystem on a high-profile, accelerated weapon system programme. Appropriate data capture and processing is essential to understanding system performance and planning spiral development paths.

    This is a very hands-on role and requires the continued design and development of complex system architectures and the instantiations for future products. This is a perfect opportunity for a Software Engineer who is proactive and takes the initiative, as the biggest risk is failure to deliver on Schedule.

    Our team develop software to test, and to be used in some of the most advanced weapon systems in the world within a critical and influential Software Engineering Directorate.

    We apply small, focused teams of engineers to complex problems - you will be working with a dedicated group of experienced software, and systems engineers. We maintain an impactful team culture.

    Responsibilities:
    Design and develop real-time / embedded software using C and C++.

    Architect and implement robust, scalable, and maintainable multi-threaded applications.

    Work with hardware teams to ensure seamless integration and timing alignment between software and capture cards.

    Contribute to system integration, verification, and testing at both component and system levels.

    Conduct performance analysis, debugging, and optimisation of real-time systems.

    Document architecture, interface definitions, and test procedures to support handover and formal test activities.
    What we're looking for from you:

    The successful candidates will be able to demonstrate exposure to practical software engineering, C / C++ software development, and will play a critical part in the design, development, integration, and verification of software solutions that are central to our system validation and delivery capabilities.
    Embedded Software development using C and C++.

    API design and development (preferably Rest).

    Configuration control (preferably using GIT).

    Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery or Deployment.

    Unit testing and test-driven development.

    Agile development (using Jira).
    Desirable, but not essential:
    Experience of Wireshark.

    Experience developing solutions with video recording.

    Experience developing solutions with LabVIEW suite of packages.
