How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    2 x Shift Maintenance Technician | Port of Southampton
    Join the backbone of UK trade and the heart of the expanding cruise operations.
    The engine room of the economy. Handling one quarter of the UK’s seaborne trade and contributing £7.5 billion annually, we are proud and focused on the future.
    The cruise function continues to grow and we are looking for a dedicated Shift Technician to join the Southampton team. This is your chance to work in an innovative, fast-paced environment where your technical skills directly impact the smooth arrival and departure of the world's most impressive cruise vessels.
    The Role
    This is a dynamic, "boots-on-the-ground" position where no two days are the same. You will be responsible for the readiness and reliability of critical port assets. This is a mixed mechanical and electrical position with an electrical bias.
    Key Responsibilities:
    * Weekly pre-work checks of assets
    * Departure and arrival operations of cruises calling in to Southampton
    * Prepare berths for cruise, including fenders, passenger boarding bridges, and gangways. Ensuring water supply and bridge installations
    * Terminal walk-through and checking of facilities
    * Preventative Maintenance
    * Provide port-wide rapid response for asset breakdowns to keep Southampton Port running efficiently
    * Liaise with Terminal Liaison Officers and support the wider day maintenance teams as required
    Are you a multi-skilled professional with a "safety-first" mindset.
    * NVQ Level 3 (Apprenticeship) in a relevant discipline
    * A mix of electrical and mechanical experience (a preference for electrical bias). 17th or 18th Edition certification is essential
    * A valid UK driving license
    * The ability to work at heights comfortably
    * A passion for technical challenges and the ability to work reactively under pressure
    To support our 24/7 operations, this role follows a 21-day rotation cycle. This includes weekends:
    * Early Shift: 04:30 – 13:30
    * Late Shift: 13:15 – 22:15
    This is a career rooted in a culture that fosters talent and encourages internal progression.
    * Competitive Pay & Benefits
    * Contributory pension (up to 5% company match) and private healthcare from day one
    * Access to in-house training academy and support for further education
    * Employee Assistance Program and a wide range of high-street/online retail discounts and cashback
    * A welcoming environment where diversity is celebrated and every individual is respected
    Important Note: To maintain our industry-leading safety standards, all successful candidates must pass a medical and undergo random screening for substance abuse (zero-tolerance policy).
