How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    Location: National Grid Melksham Substation, Wiltshire
    Start Date: 13th April 2026
    End Date: 13th October 2026
    Hours: 08:00 - 17:30 (5 days per week)
    Job Type: Temporary Contract
    Rate: £650-£700 per day (Umbrella)
    IR35 Status: Inside IR35 (LTD not permitted)

    Overview of the Role:
    This position involves taking responsibility for the successful delivery of critical energy infrastructure schemes within a well-established utilities and infrastructure business. The role sits within the energy division and focuses on projects spanning electricity transmission, distribution networks, renewable developments, and new customer connections.
    You will manage projects from initial planning through to completion, ensuring delivery is safe, on schedule, within financial targets, and meets required quality standards.
    The role supports major UK energy clients such as National Grid, SSE, UK Power Networks, and SSEN, across a diverse portfolio of transmission, distribution, and substation construction projects operating at voltages ranging from 11kV up to 400kV.

    Core Responsibilities:

    Project Leadership & Delivery:
    Take full ownership of project execution from inception through to handover
    Lead cross-functional teams including civil, electrical, mechanical, and commercial disciplines
    Ensure delivery aligns with programme timelines, budget constraints, safety expectations, and quality benchmarks
    Foster strong collaboration across key roles including Construction, Commercial, Engineering, and Design teams
    Health, Safety & Environmental (HSEQ):
    Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across all project activities
    Oversee the development and implementation of risk assessments, method statements, and safety plans
    Ensure full compliance with internal procedures, industry standards, and UK health & safety legislation
    Planning & Programme Control:

    Collaborate with planning specialists to establish and track detailed project schedules
    Manage both short-term and long-term programme activities to ensure efficient resource utilisation
    Monitor progress and adapt plans to maintain programme integrityCommercial, Risk & Contract Management:

    Identify, manage, and mitigate project risks, including technical and contractual challenges
    Contribute to financial reporting processes such as CVRs and ensure commercial performance targets are achieved
    Oversee subcontractor engagement, procurement, and performance management
    Apply knowledge of NEC contract frameworks to support effective project governanceClient & Stakeholder Engagement:

    Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients through regular meetings, reporting, and communication
    Ensure alignment across all stakeholders, both internal and external, throughout the project lifecycle
    Represent the project professionally during audits, reviews, and progress updatesTechnical Coordination:

    Address and resolve engineering and design-related challenges during project execution
    Ensure adherence to CDM regulations and support Principal Contractor duties where requiredExperience & Skills:

    Demonstrated experience delivering projects within the utilities or energy sector, particularly across electrical transmission and distribution (11kV-400kV)
    Strong technical understanding of high-voltage systems, substations, switchgear, and associated infrastructure
    Experience working under NEC contract conditions and managing commercial aspects of projects
    Proven ability to manage complex or multiple projects simultaneously
    Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels
    Competence in planning, cost management, forecasting, and financial reporting (including CVRs)
    Proficiency in project management tools and digital systemsQualifications:

    HNC, HND, or Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
    Professional project management qualification (such as APM or PRINCE2) is advantageous
    SMSTS or equivalent health & safety certification
    Full UK driving licence and flexibility to travel as required
