How our sorting works

The order in which job vacancies are displayed is determined by a composite score based on the following factors:

  • Keyword Relevance: How well your search terms match the vacancy details. We prioritize matches found in the job title, followed by job requirements, location names, and educational levels. Matches within general employer information or the organization's name carry a lower weight.
  • Commercial Prioritization (Premium Jobs): Vacancies paid for by employers ('Premium' or 'Sponsored') receive a ranking boost and will appear higher in the search results.
  • Recency (Date Relevance): Newer vacancies are prioritized. The relevance score of a vacancy is reduced by half once the posting is older than 30 days.
  • Proximity (Distance Relevance): Vacancies located closer to your search location are ranked higher. For vacancies located more than 30 km from the search center, the relevance score is halved.
The final ranking is established by multiplying all these individual factors to calculate the total relevance score.

    Job description

    About the Client

Our client is a reputable mechanical and electrical contractor based in Maidstone, delivering building services solutions across public sector and commercial environments. Their portfolio includes projects within hospitals, schools, prisons, hotels, and mixed-use developments, with a strong focus on repeat business and long-term client relationships.

Operating in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, they pride themselves on delivering high-quality mechanical installations and maintenance solutions, with a steady pipeline of day-to-day projects rather than large-scale one-off schemes. The business offers a collaborative culture with clear opportunities for development within a growing pre-construction team.

    Roles/Responsibilities

    • Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to understand project requirements
    • Prepare detailed mechanical estimates for HVAC, pipework, heating, and ventilation systems
    • Carry out take-offs and build accurate cost plans for projects typically ranging from £500k–£2m
    • Engage with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive and compliant quotations
    • Analyse and compare subcontractor returns to ensure best value and technical compliance
    • Prepare tender submissions and support internal adjudication processes
    • Liaise with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams during pre-construction
    • Support smooth handover of secured projects to delivery teams

    Qualifications

    • Previous experience as a Mechanical Estimator within an M&E contractor environment
    • Strong understanding of mechanical building services (HVAC, pipework, heating systems)
    • Experience pricing projects within the £500k–£2m range (desirable)
    • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications
    • Experience using estimating software and digital tools; knowledge of CAD and Simpro would be beneficial
    • Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and organisational skills
    • Relevant qualifications in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services (preferred)

    Benefits

    • Competitive salary package (DOE)
    • Pension and standard benefits package
    • Opportunity to work on a consistent pipeline of secured projects
    • Supportive and collaborative team environment
    • Ongoing training and career development opportunities
    • Stable role focused on repeat, deliverable projects rather than high-risk mega schemes

If you’re a Mechanical Estimator looking to work on consistent, technically varied projects within a stable and growing M&E contractor, this could be a great opportunity to progress your career
